Appeals Court to Consider Zimmerman Request to Question Martin Family Attorney

April 9, 2013 | WMFE - An appeals court will consider whether George Zimmerman's defense can depose an attorney representing the family of Trayvon Martin

Zimmerman is the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer who says he killed 17-year-old Martin in self-defense. He will stand trial on a second-degree murder charge in June.

Already a judge has ruled against Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara twice. But O'Mara  says he doesn't want to go to trial without questioning Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump under oath. 

"We could never undo that, right? Because after the trial is over we could address the issue on appeal, but we could never have a trial with Crump's depo."

That's deposition.

O'Mara wants to ask Crump about his interview with a young woman who was on the phone with Martin moments before he was shot and killed last February.

Crump says any information he got from the young woman is privileged.

The Fifth District Court of Appeals in Daytona Beach will consider O'Mara's deposition request.
