No Evidence of Tornado in Preliminary Survey of Storm Damage

March 25, 2013 | WMFE - A preliminary survey indicates yesterday's storm damage wasn't the work of a tornado.

National Weather Service forecaster Bob Wimmer says the stormy weather toppled power poles, damaged roofs and tossed furniture across Central Florida.

At the Space Coast Regional Airport an airplane flipped over.

"The storm damage was due to a large swath of straight-line storm winds. They haven't seen any rotational type pattern yet.''

Tornado warnings were issued in Lake, Orange, Seminole and Brevard counties. But Wimmer says there's no evidence a tornado touched down.

Winds measured up to 80 miles an hour, and quarter-sized hale was reported. The weather moved through ahead of a front that will bring cooler weather.

Tens of thousands lost power. It's been restored for all but about 12-hundred in Orange County and 300 in Brevard County.
