Update: UCF Student Had Ordered More Equipment For Campus Attack, Police Say

March 19, 2013 | WMFE - Authorities have released new details in the suicide of a University of Central Florida student who had amassed a rifle, hand-gun, explosives and 1,000 rounds of ammunition. They say the weapons and ammo were part of a large attack he had planned on the campus. But it appears the student began his attack even before having all of the details in place.

Before 30-year-old James Oliver Seevakumaran, a business major, launched his attack at the University of Central Florida, he made a list of his plans.

At the top of the list was drinking at a local bar. But University of Central Florida Police Chief Richard Beary says no one joined Seevakumaran for a final drink.

"All indications are, just like the rest of his life, he was alone."

Beary says Seevakumaran crossed off each task as he completed them.

"The last thing on the list was give 'em hell."

But Seevakumaran never crossed that off. A roommate dialed 911 when Seevakumaran aimed a gun at him, and he killed himself as police closed in.

Authorities also found two packages in a campus mailroom Seevakumaran had received March 12 but never picked up. The packages contained 22-round magazines and an instructional video on how to use one of his weapons.

Authorities say they still don't know why Seevakumaran planned his attack. In a statement his family said Seevakumaran was a loner and had no history of violence.
