Senate Committee Passes Proposal to Restrict Outdoor Smoking  February 22, 2013 | WMFE - Cities and counties in Florida could soon ban smoking outdoors in public areas - including beaches and parks, under a bill that passed in a State Senate committee vote yesterday. The bill would allow municipalities to expand the state's clean indoor air restrictions to more outdoor venues. Richard Turner of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association says the restaurant industry has concerns about the proposal. Many Florida restaurants built outdoor smoking areas 10 years ago after the state banned indoor smoking in restaurants in 2003. Senators agreed to work with the restaurant industry and said they would only require non-smoking areas for outdoor dining if smoking sections are also made available. The Senate committee approved the measure unanimously Thursday. |
