Orlando International Airport Ready for Holiday Rush

December 21, 2012 | WMFE- Orlando International Airport is bracing for one of the busiest weekends of the year as thousands of people take to the skies for the holidays.

More than 1.8 million people will pass through the airport in the next few weeks.

Greater Orlando Aviation Authority executive director Phil Brown, says airport staff are focused on getting travelers through security and on their way as quickly as possible.

“Everybody, TSA, Aviation Authority personnel, concessionaires, the airlines, they all understand there’s a certain amount of angst people incur when they’re coming through an airport," says Brown.

"We sort of view our job to diminish that to the extent possible.”

More than 119,000 people are expected through the airport this Saturday- but the busiest day is still to come, with 121,000 expected on December 29th.

On a regular day the airport processes up to 95,000 travelers.

The slow economy has had an impact on travel through Orlando though, with overall passenger numbers down about 1 per cent compared to a year ago.
