Judge Denies Zimmerman's Request to Modify Bond Conditions

December 11, 2012 | WMFE- lawyers for George Zimmerman were back in court in Sanford Tuesday morning asking for his bond conditions to be relaxed.

Zimmerman’s lawyers wanted the court to remove his GPS monitoring and a restriction on travel outside of Seminole County. They said he needs to move freely throughout Florida both for his own safety and to allow him to meet with defense witnesses.

Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda told the court he "strenuously objects" to any modification of bond conditions.

Judge Debra Nelson denied the defense request.

Defense attorneys also filed motions asking for access to more evidence relating to the second degree murder case. They want the original recording of an interview Martin family Lawyer Benjamin Crump conducted with a teenage girl who said she was talking to Trayvon Martin on the phone moments before he was shot.

In a motion asking for the recording, defense attorney Donald West says, quote: “the state should not be able to play hide and seek with the evidence”.

Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda says the state will give the defense a digital copy of the recording.

Zimmerman’s fighting a second degree murder charge: he says Trayvon Martin attacked him, and he shot the teenager in self defense.
