Republican State Senate President Don Gaetz says state lawmakers are eager to move ahead with implementation but, he says, they need more direction from the federal government.

The federal government set a deadline of December 14th for states to submit a plan for setting up health care exchanges and dealing with the expansion of Medicaid but Florida legislative leaders have requested an extension from the federal Department of Health and Human Services.

State Democrats say the Republican led legislature deliberately delayed planning for implementation of the law.

90.7’s Tom Parkinson asked Sen. Gaetz to explain why Florida waited until now to get started.
