Democrats Grab 3 Central Florida Seats in Legislature

November 7, 2012 | WMFE - In the Florida house democrats gained several seats from central Florida last night. 90.7s Mark Simpson reports meanwhile a future republican state house speaker will be returning to Tallahassee.

A bruising campaign between former GOP conservative state lawmaker Bob Brooks and former Orange County Commissioner Linda Stewart ended with Democrat Stewart taking the district 47 seat. Stewart won 52% to 47%.

Meanwhile Orlando area democrats handed first time political candidate and Equity Florida staffer Joe Saunders a victory over republican Marco Pena with a 55% to 44% percent margin.

State representative and republican Scott Plakon lost his bid in District 30 to political newcomer Karen Castor Dentel 52% to 47%.

In a surprisingly tight race future house speaker republican Chris Dorworth looked likely to return to Tallahassee after squeaking out 50% to 49% victory over lawyer Mike Clelland in house district 29.

However now that very close race is categorized as too close to call.
