Florida Utilities Sending Workers to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic

October 30, 2012 | WMFE - Hundreds of power crews are on their way to Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic states this morning to help return electric service in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Progress Energy is sending more than a thousand line workers to help out wherever they are needed and Florida Power & Light Co. is sending about 900 workers and 250 trucks to Maryland, Virginia and Washington to help restore power.

Officials at FP&L, Progress and other Florida utilities say they're happy to help because Florida often gets assistance from other states when hurricanes strike here and, they say, Florida utility crews have plenty of experience in dealing with hurricanes.
