Central Florida Lawmakers Picked as Intended State House Leaders

Oct 22, 2012 | WMFE - Florida GOP lawmakers are choosing new leaders for the state House next session, although the appointments depend on each representative being re-elected and the party retaining its majority after the November 6th election. Some top spots are slated for Central Florida legislators.

Republican Florida House Speaker-designate Will Weatherford has named three more top lieutenants for the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions. He announced Monday that Chris Dorworth of Lake Mary will serve as House majority leader assuming he is re-elected in November.

Dorworth joins Seth McKeel of Lakeland as another Central Florida Republican picked for state House leadership – Weatherford previously named McKeel as intended budget chairman.

Weatherford also announced Monday he is choosing Marti Coley of Marianna as speaker pro-tem and Robert Schenck of Spring Hill as Rules Committee chairman, contingent upon the re-election of the two Republican representatives in their respective races.

Lawmakers have scheduled a one-day reorganization session on November 20th, about two weeks after Election Day.
