Lynx Reaches 'Tentative' Deal With Drivers, Mechanics

Bus drivers and mechanics employed by Central Florida's mass transit authority have reached a tentative deal with Lynx on pay and pensions.

The agreement covers about 800 operators and mechanics and includes a pay increase of 40 cents an hour for top wage earners and graded increases for the rest.

Lynx CEO John Lewis says he’s happy a deal is within reach after a year and a half of negotiation.

“I know the executive board of the union is working very hard to inform its members that this is a good deal and one they should vote for, and then the Lynx board of directors has to also accept that deal.”

Lewis says most important for Lynx is a 401K type pension plan for employees hired after January next year, which will save the authority 30 million dollars over the next 25 years.

He says current employees will still get the pension they were promised under the old contract.

Amalgamated Transit Union members are expected to vote on the agreement Friday.
