Jeb Bush Backs Romney's Education Strategy

Oct 9, 2012 | WMFE - Jeb Bush says presidential challenger Mitt Romney would take a different approach to education from the current administration. The former Florida governor appeared in Orlando and Kissimmee Tuesday to campaign for Romney.

President Obama has praised Bush's leadership in education, and Bush has offered support for some of the administration's education policies in the past.

Now, though, the former Governor says Mitt Romney has a better plan for schools and universities.

“He probably wouldn’t use the Federal government as a club to bring about change, it would be a partner for states that are willing to reform in a broader way," said Bush.

"Number two, the policy would empower parents a lot more.”  

Bush says he thinks Romney would also focus more on trying to get students in higher education to graduate faster.

The former Florida governor’s comments followed what was billed as a "Hispanic meet and greet" in Kissimmee.

Bush speaks fluent Spanish, and is seen as someone who can reach out to Latino voters in hotly contested Central Florida.
