$446 Million Budget Approved for Orlando International Airport

Orlando International Airport's governing board has approved a $446 million budget for 2013. The budget is a 2.3 per cent increase on 2012 and includes funding for capital improvement projects including security upgrades and runway repairs

Airline cost-per-passenger fees are set at $5.35, a slight increase on last year.

Phil Brown, the executive director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, says the fees charged to the airlines are “competitive”.

By comparison, the cost per passenger for airlines using Miami International Airport is $20.50

70 per cent of the airport’s income is generated from non airline sources, including rental cars, parking service and ground transportation.

Long term plans for improvements at Orlando International include a new South Terminal and a multi-modal train station.

Florida East Coast Industries is currently in talks with the aviation authority about plans to bring an intercity rail line to the airport.
