Isaac Douses Central Florida

August 27, 2012 | WMFE - Tropical Storm Isaac churned away into the Gulf of Mexico on Monday after dumping rain on Central Florida. The National Weather Service says it expects up to 6 inches total rainfall from the storm.

In Osceola County, more than 11 thousand sandbags were handed out over the weekend as a precaution.

While the worst of Isaac bypassed Central Florida, the storm left water across some roads and some pooling in low lying areas.

National Weather Service meteorologist Amanda Bowen says the region should be able to cope with the rainfall.

 “It’s certainly a lot of rain," said Bowen, "but the good news is we’ve been right around average to maybe a little bit dry recently."

"It seems like the ground is able to take the rain pretty well at this point."

The city of St. Cloud was dealing with minor flooding on Monday, with pumps working throughout the day to disperse water from the Blackberry Creek and Esprit subdivisions.
