Isaac Moving Toward Northern Gulf Coast

August 27, 2012 | WMFE - Tropical Storm Isaac is moving northwest through the Gulf of Mexico this morning. The 8:00 am update from the National Weather Service shows the storm about 360 miles southeast of New Orleans and about 220 miles northwest of Key West moving West/Northwest at 14 mph with maximum winds of about 65 MPH.

Central Florida is experiencing high winds and heavy rains from the outer bands of the storm.
The current storm track shows Isaac making landfall somewhere between the Western Florida Panhandle and New Orleans possibly as a Category One or category Two hurricane early Wednesday morning.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued along a 300-mile stretch of the Gulf Coast in four states from Florida to Louisiana.

Isaac is drenching Tampa this morning, the site of the Republican National Convention.

The RNC was scheduled to begin today but the opening has been delayed until tomorrow.

Republican National Committee officials have released a compressed three-day schedule for the convention.

Party officials said presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be nominated Tuesday, as will vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
