Law Enforcement Officials Ask Tampa Residents to Report RNC Scofflaws

Tampa-area law enforcement officers are asking residents to be on the lookout for people who are squatting inside foreclosed or vacant properties over the next few weeks. The request comes as the date of the Republican National Convention approaches.

Thousands of out-of-town protesters are expected to converge on Tampa for the Republican National Convention, which starts next week. Law enforcement officers say some protesters might try to pitch tents in the backyards of the area's many foreclosed homes or break into empty commercial buildings.

Deputies are urging people to call authorities if they see any odd activity, including the pitching of tents or homemade flags, or the appearance of anarchist graffiti.

However, law enforcement is not concerned with protesters who are staying in campgrounds or the yards of friends and family, according to officials.

The Republican National Convention takes place in downtown Tampa from August 27th through the 30th.
