A court hearing for former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman scheduled for Wednesday has been delayed until October.
The defense was granted a motion to continue the case, which postponed the docket sounding: a hearing where attorneys update the judge on the progress of the case and whether they are ready to go to trial. In a statement on their website, Zimmerman’s legal team said they still have a lot of information to gather, and it's still too early to set a firm trial date. His lawyers say they are working depose more than 50 experts and witnesses and filing motions including a potential stand your ground motion. The defense says it anticipates the case won’t be ready for trial until early next year. George Zimmerman faces a second degree murder charge in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman says he acted in self defense.
