Orlando Magic Introduce New Head Coach Jacque Vaughn

The Orlando Magic announced over the weekend that former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Jacque Vaughn will lead the team in a new direction. Orlando is familiar territory for Vaughn who played 80 games with the Magic during the 2002-2003 season.

The choice of Vaughn is a little bit of a risk for the Magic who recently hired Rob Hennigan as General Manager, the youngest person to hold such a position, while Vaughn has never held a head coaching position.

During his two seasons with the staff of the San Antonio Spurs, the team's regular season record was 111-37.

Vaughn's basketball career also includes four years at Kansas University.

The Orlando Magic have been without a head coach since Stan Van Gundy was let go earlier this year.  Van Gundy's departure circled around tensions between him and star forward Dwight Howard.

Howard has expressed interest in being traded away from the Orlando Magic, but despite weeks of speculation where Howard might go, no firm deal has emerged.

GM Hennigan is indicating that if necessary Howard may start training for the upcoming NBA season in the fall.
