EPA Agrees to Set Deadline for Florida Pollution Compliance  July 23, 2012 | WMFE - The federal Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to set deadlines for limiting haze-causing air pollution from aging power plants and factories in Florida. Members of the legal organization Earthjustice said Monday the agreement would settle a lawsuit they filed for several environmental groups, including the Sierra Club and National Parks Conservation Association. It is subject to approval by a federal court in Washington, D.C. It requires the EPA to finalize cleanup steps in two phases with the last due on July 15, 2013. The EPA settled similar complaints involving 42 other states earlier this year, but excluded Florida after the state objected. The federal Clean Air Act required states to adopt plans for curbing haze in national parks, wilderness areas and wildlife refuges by December 2007. Florida missed that deadline. |
