Williams Drops Out of State Attorney Race

July 6, 2012 | WMFE - The race for the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's office is now a two man contest. Former Assistant State Attorney Ryan Williams dropped out of the race Thursday.

Former prosecutor Jeff Ashton is now the only candidate challenging incumbent Lawson Lamar, who has held that office for the past 20 years.

The only Republican candidate, defense lawyer Joerg Jaeger, dropped out last month. Both Lamar and Ashton are Democrats so the Aug. 14th primary will be open to all voters and the winner will be the state attorney for the next term.

Williams had criticized the incumbent Lamar saying his office had the second worst conviction rate in the state.
He has not commented publicly on why he decided to drop out of the race.
