Search for Eatonville Police Chief May Soon End

July 03, 2012 | WMFE - Eatonville has gone nearly a year without a police chief, after former Chief Joseph Brown resigned last summer. Now, the search for a new chief may be coming to an end.

Chief Brown kept his job through a failed attempt by two town council members to have him fired earlier last year. He ended up resigning in August 2011.

Since then, Eatonville Police Captain Joseph Jenkins has been handling the chief’s duties. But Eatonville’s Interim Chief Administrative Officer Mary Lou Andrews says there’s a good chance a permanent chief may be coming in soon.

“We closed our deadline on the applications for the chief of police about two weeks ago," says Andrews, "and so we are now in the process of whittling those down to a very small group.”

She says Eatonville officials and the town council will narrow the pool to two or three candidates, then begin an extensive interview process. There’s no hard-and-fast deadline to fill the position, but Andrews says officials would like to install a qualified chief as soon as they’re able.
