Debby Heads Slowly Toward North Florida

June 26, 2012 | WMFE - Forecasters say Tropical Storm Debby may affect the weather here in Central Florida for the next few days. Some parts of the region have seen two to three inches of rain. The area has also been slammed by strong winds.


Forecasters warn that the threat of isolated tornadoes persists throughout Central Florida.
High waves and strong rip currents are threatening swimmers and surfers along Brevard and Volusia beaches.

At 11:00 am, the National Hurricane Center says the storm is about 70 miles west of Cedar Key moving slowly to the east at about 3 mph with top sustained winds of 40 mph.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Gulf Coast, from Panama City to Venice. 
Debby is expected to continue to move slowly across north Florida for the next two to three days.

The major problem for Central Florida is expected to be rain.
The storm has the potential to dump 4 to 6 inches of rain across the region and the wet and windy conditions are expected to linger through at least Thursday.
