The Orlando Magic's new general manager, Rob Hennigan, says he wants to build an elite basketball operation to win a championship.

Rob Hennigan was picked to replace Otis Smith, who was fired along with coach Stan Van Gundy in May.

Hennigan comes from eight years with the management of two successful NBA franchises: four of them with this season’s finalists the Oklahoma City Thunder, and before that the San Antonio Spurs.

At a press conference Thursday, the 30-year-old said he was excited and humbled to be chosen for what will be a high pressure role.

“There’s no question there’s pressure. This is a high pressure business, you have to earn your keep. No body’s going to do any favors for you, so we’re just going to keep our heads down, get our sleeves rolled up and get to work.”

One of Hennigan’s first jobs is to find a replacement for Van Gundy, who was let go after a public falling out with Magic star Dwight Howard.
