US Chamber of Commerce: High Marks for Florida's Higher Education  June 20, 2012 | WMFE - A business-backed national study gives Florida's public colleges and universities high marks for student access and success, as well as efficiency. The study was released by the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an arm of the US Chamber of Commerce. Florida’s higher education system was the only one to get A’s in the categories of “access” and “success” – the percentage of students getting grants and the percentage actually graduating, respectively – for its two- and four-year schools. It also received high ranking in the category of “efficiency.” Speaking from their annual meeting in Orlando today, officials from the board that oversees Florida's state universities said the study was evidence the state's accountability framework is working. But in the category of “transparency and accountability,” the state received a C. The system earned another C in “meeting labor market demand” and a D in “innovation.” Florida's universities also had the lowest cost per completion at $46,071 per student. The state’s two-year colleges ranked third at $38,146. |
