George Zimmerman Must Return to Jail, Judge Revokes Bond  June 1, 2012 | WMFE - A judge has revoked the $150,000 bond for former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. The Sanford man is claiming self-defense against second-degree murder charges in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. In court Friday afternoon, state prosecutors argued that Zimmerman’s bond should be revoked because he misled the court about his finances in his original bond hearing. Zimmerman, his wife and other members of his family testified that they had limited funds. Based partially upon that information, Zimmerman’s bond was set at $150,000, and he was released on that bail amount. But several days after that first bond hearing, defense attorney Mark O’Mara revealed to the court that he had discovered his client had raised more than $200,000 from a website. That money wasn't disclosed at the bond hearing. But that was merely a misunderstanding, O’Mara argued at today’s hearing. O'Mara also said Zimmerman has been co-operating with law enforcement, so he should be allowed to stay out of jail and there should be no changes to the bail arrangement. Seminole County Judge Kenneth Lester sided with the prosecution and ruled Zimmerman had intentionally misled the court, possibly even conspiring with his wife to hide the website money before his original bond hearing. Lester ordered that Zimmerman turn himself in to authorities within 48 hours. He will then be taken back into custody. |
