Florida Unemployment Rate Drops Again in April

May 18, 2012 | WMFE - Florida's unemployment rate dropped to 8.7 percent in April. That's a decline from the 9 percent rate in March but it's still higher than the national jobless rate of 8.1 percent for April.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity released the monthly figures this morning and noted that the jobless rate was the lowest it's been since January 2009.

The jobless rate declined in the Metro Orlando region to 8.2 percent down from 8.6 percent the previous month.
The Space Coast also continued to see a drop in unemployment with the Melbourne-Titusville Metro area’s rate at 9 percent, down from 9.5 percent in March.

The professional and business services sector added the most jobs in Florida followed by private education, health services, trade and transportation and the leisure and hospitality industries.
The construction business and government service sector both continued to shed jobs.
