About 50 students from Florida A&M and FAMU College of Law joined Florida State University and Barry University students at Seminole County’s Criminal Justice Center.

FAMU College of Law student Shelton Marhsall spoke with Pat Whitaker, the chief of operations at the State Attorney’s Office, for about an hour. Marhsall says he’s concerned about how minorities are perceived in Central Florida.

“Being different or being not within the scope of what everyone else looks like does not make you suspicious enough to warrant your death or persecution by the community you are within,” says Marhsall.

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in a gated community he was visiting by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman.

More demonstrations are planned for Thursday when civil rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton is expected to speak.
