March 14, 2012 | WMFE - If the campaign season has you dragging, a new book co-written by Princeton University psychologist Danny Oppenheimer explaining how democracy functions could help. Sure there are lots of reasons democracy can be derailed. Voters can be uninformed and politicians can be inept or corrupt. Oppenheimer's book is called "Democracy Despite Itself: Why a System that Shouldn't Work at all Works So Well." To explain the good and bad parts of democracy Oppenheimer started by telling 90.7's Mark Simpson about an example of democratic irrationality. It's a New Mexico bill from 1995.
