Fishkind Commentaries: State Budget Will Impact Central Florida

March 13, 2012 | WMFE - The state legislature has wrapped up its regular session for the year, although they'll be back at work this week for another attempt to create new district maps that will pass muster with the courts. Lawmakers did finish the other major item on their agenda: a state budget for the coming fiscal year along with several other measures that could impact central Florida's economy.

The annual budget is about $70 billion dollars, roughly the same as last year. One big change is an $840 million dollar boost in spending for public education. Economic analyst Hank Fishkind tells 90.7’s Tom Parkinson that the increase in school spending is not really as generous as it might seem.
