Fishkind Commentaries: House Budget Aids Education, Cuts Health Care

February 14, 2012 | WMFE - The state legislature has passed the half way mark in its annual 60 day session. The legislature convened early this year to finish work on redistricting and on a state budget.

The House passed a 69-point-2 billion dollar budget last week and the Senate is expected to finish its plan later this week.
The House version restores more than a billion dollars in funding for public education which last year’s budget cut and the Senate version is expected to include a similar funding boost for education

Economic analyst Hank Fishkind has been taking a close look at both of the spending plans being discussed. He tells 90.7’s Tom Parkinson that the billion dollars for education will come at the expense of other state programs.
