SunRail Development Attracts Federal Dollars

Nov. 22, 2011 | WMFE - A federal agency has awarded $2.4 million dollars to a regional planning agency to improve development around SunRail commuter stops. The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council will use the money to help connect housing with jobs, schools and transportation.

The funds will be used at 12 of the 17 planned Sunrail stops.
Those are considered part of the first phase of the 61 mile commuter rail project.
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development made the announcement Monday.
SunRail is slated to start running in 2014 between Debary in Volusia County, through downtown Orlando and into Osceola County.
Developers around the region have been lining up projects to take advantage of the commuter train.
That includes a recent announcement of a $200 million dollar development across from the Orange County Courthouse.
