Intersection | Walt Disney World, 40 years later


October 18, 2011 | Walt Disney World opened in Central Florida 40 years ago this month. The attraction had only a single theme park, the Magic Kingdom, with about two-dozen rides including the Haunted Mansion, Snow White's Adventures and Country Bear Jamboree. Today the Walt Disney World Resort is the world's largest amusement complex. The attraction draws an estimated 17 million visitors annually and contributes nearly 3 percent to the state's gross domestic product. Where would Central Florida be today without Disney?
