New Anti-Domestic Violence Campaign in Orlando

Aug. 24, 2011 | WMFE - Hoping to tamp down a surge in domestic violence related murders, Orlando officials announced a new public awareness campaign Tuesday. Orlando Police say there's been a sharp spike in the number of deaths attributed to domestic violence even as other violent crimes continue to decline.

Police Chief Paul Rooney says at least seven people have died so far this year in domestic violence homicides.
“Project Courage” will focus on the Malibu Groves neighborhood in Orlando. Volunteers will work to educate residents about violence in the home and what family members, neighbors and community leaders can do to help.
The group’s first such initiative has been operating in Orlando’s Pine Castle neighborhood for about a year and a half and has trained more than 18,000 people in domestic violence awareness.
