The group Citizens for National Security is suing over the new law that abolishes 10-member textbook selection committees made up of educators and members of the public. Instead, the state education commissioner will hand-pick two “experts” to review the books, and if they can’t agree, a third will break the tie.

The group has issued a report alleging Florida schools use books with a Muslim bias, but the lawsuit doesn't mention that. The filing claims the law is an effort by Scott, who is a Christian, and other politicians to inject their religious views into public schools though textbooks.

The suit also contends two people can’t adequately review textbooks, some of which are hundreds of pages long, in the time they’re allotted.

State education officials say while they do compile a list of approved textbooks, local school districts have the final choice.
