Job Fair for Laid-Off Space Workers to Follow Final Shuttle Landing

July 19, 2011 | WMFE - NASA is co-sponsoring a job fair in Cape Canaveral next week, aimed at the thousands of people being laid off from the space shuttle program. The event is scheduled for next Tuesday, just days after the end of the final shuttle mission.

The job fair at the Radisson in Cape Canaveral is being put on by Kennedy Space Center, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and Brevard Workforce.  Organizers expect more than 45 government and private sector employers to participate.

The event will follow on the heels of the planned landing of Space Shuttle Atlantis, scheduled for this Thursday morning just before 6am.  The historic event will mark the end of the shuttle program and the ends of careers for thousands of Space Coast residents.  More than 2,000 Kennedy Space Center workers are expected to lose their jobs by the end of this month.  More than 4,000 others have already been laid off.
