Volusia Officials Ban Fireworks

June 06, 2011 | WMFE - Dry weather and previous wildfires have lead Volusia County Fire officials to ban using fireworks on the County.

The ban will last for 60 days.  It was approved by the Volusia County Council last week after close to 40 wildires scorched more than 825 acres.

Officials say unless wet weather comes to improve dry conditions the ban will be in effect for the July 4th Holiday.

The only exception to the ban on fireworks is for agricultural and fish hatchery workers who use fireworks to scare off birds.

Elsewhere in the state water managers have noted that the "rainy" season in Florida is off to a very slow start leaving many water supplies, including Lake Okeechobee far bellow normal levels.
