Historic Endeavour Shuttle Launch Scrubbed

April 29, 2011 | WMFE - The final launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour scheduled for Friday at 3:47pm has been scrubbed.

NASA engineers called off the launch at about 12:30pm Friday due to an unexpected technical problem. The engineers say there will not be another launch attempt for at least 72 hours while they find out exactly what’s wrong.

The issue, according to NASA officials, is with two heaters associated with one of the shuttle’s auxiliary power units. The shuttle’s three auxiliary power units provide hydraulic power to steer the shuttle into and out of space.

The power units are also used to lower the landing gear when the shuttle returns.
