Angry Protesters Attend Rep. Webster's Town Hall Meeting

April 27, 2011 | WMFE - Congressman Daniel Webster, a Republican from Winter Garden, faced heckling and jeering from protesters at a town hall meeting Tuesday in Orlando.

Webster’s presentation at the Orange County Extension Education Center was repeatedly interrupted by shouting matches between his supporters and opponents.
Webster used graphs and pie charts to defend the 2012 budget proposed by Republican Congressman Paul Ryan which recently passed in the House.
The Republican budget would restructure Medicare and cut some social safety net programs.
The protesters said the Republican plan would replace Medicare with a voucher system to buy health insurance. Some said they worried that seniors would be unable to find affordable health coverage on the private market. Webster said that no one receiving Medicare benefits now would lose them.
Orlando Police officers, who provided security for the event, stepped in several times to ask angry participants to calm down.
Webster said he thought most in the crowd agreed with the Republican plan but were shouted down by a loud minority.
