Planned Orlando Thrill Park Rejected

April 19, 2011 | WMFE - A planned International Drive amusement park packed with roller coasters and thrill rides was derailed by the Orlando Municipal Planning Board today. The board's "no" vote was prompted by concerns about noise from the proposed Orlando Thrill Park affecting a nearby residential area.

Developers of the park were aiming for nearly 80 acres on north International Drive between the Festival Bay Mall and the Tangelo Park neighborhood. Orlando Thrill Park planners offered a presentation to the Board at today’s meeting, requesting zoning, land-use and other changes that would have relaxed noise-level requirements.

Some Tangelo Park residents also attended the meeting to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting. The majority were against the project, expressing concerns that the screams and roars from the park’s dozen-plus thrill rides would invade the area’s homes and schools.

Park developers have five days to appeal to the Orlando City Council.
