New State Unemployment Report Shows Drop in Jobless Rate

March 25, 2011 | WMFE - New jobless numbers were released Friday, showing a drop in both the state unemployment rate and that of metro Orlando.

According to the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Florida’s jobless rate for February was 11.5 percent, a drop of 0.4 percent from January. Florida added 22,700 jobs in February.  That means the there are 32,700 more jobs statewide than there were in February 2010.

In metro Orlando, the dip was even more significant. The unemployment rate dropped a full percentage point, from 11.8 percent in January to 10.8 percent in February. One year ago, the jobless rate was .08 percent higher for the area.

Nearly 1.1 million Floridians remain jobless.
