January 20, 2011 | WMFE - The US Department of Agriculture released a report this week on damage to Florida's citrus crop from a series of freezes last month.
It was the coldest December on record in Florida. The USDA report says the freeze affected about one-third of Florida's early orange crop varieties and nearly half of the midseason crop.
90.7’s Tom Parkinson spoke with veteran citrus grower Marty McKenna of McKenna Brothers in Lake City. His company manages 5000 acres of groves throughout the state. He is also a board member and former president of Florida Citrus Mutual, the state’s largest citrus grower’s organization. McKenna says he has seen some damage in his groves from the early winter freezes.
