New Website Offers Job Listings in Hard-Hit Construction Industry

September 21, 2010 | WMFE - There's a new resource for Florida construction workers looking for jobs. A website is now providing contractors with information about federal, state and local stimulus programs designed to put people to work.

More than 300 thousand construction workers lost their jobs when the recession hit Florida. Now Workforce Florida, the Florida Home Builders Association and Florida State University have teamed up to help contractors tap into employment and training opportunities paid for by federal stimulus money.

Al Zichella is president-elect of the Florida Home Builders Association. He says he’s happy for the stimulus help.

“With no real concern over the political agenda, we welcome the ways federal programs can help our industry,” Zichella notes. “Some call it stimulus, for many of us, we call it survival.”

Zichella said the site can play a major role in putting people to work. ReconstructFL.com includes job information related to the Neighborhood Stabilization program, Weatherization Assistance grants, and Energy Efficiency grants, as well as links to state programs.
