Renewable Fuel Summit Slated for Orlando

August 9, 2010 -- Growers, researchers, investors and state leaders convene the 2010 Florida Farm-to-Fuel Summit Wednesday in Orlando. The state Department of Agriculture sponsors the event to encourage farmers and investors to produce renewable fuels.

The Florida Legislature created the Farm-to Fuel-initiative in 2006 to promote Florida-grown crops as a source of renewable energy. Agricultural Commissioner Charles Bronson said the goal is for farmers to produce 30% of the state energy supply by 2025.

“Instead of making one crop per year for food, we could do one crop for food and turn around and grow a fuel crop behind it,” says Bronson, “and supply the fuel source for  companies that want to build these biomass electrical plants.”

The conference begins Wednesday runs through Friday at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando. It includes discussions on biofuels, feed stocks and biomass power generation in Florida.
