Sixty medical students received their white lab coats in a ceremony this morning at the new facility, then they went to class. The first classes in the new building were held immediately following the opening ceremony.
The 60 future physicians are UCF med school’s second class. They join 40 others who started studying last year at the university’s main campus.
The new $65 million dollar College of Medicine building at Lake Nona is adjacent to UCF’s Burnett Biomedical Sciences building.
The campus is considered the centerpiece of the growing “medical city” in Southeast Orange County.
The Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute opened at the complex last year.
Nemours Children’s Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center are both on track to open at Lake Nona in 2012.
