Remembering the Unique History of Space Shuttle Atlantis

May 14, 2010 - The launch of space shuttle Atlantis is expected to be the final flight for the 25 year old spaceship. There is a chance that the orbiter may still fly one more time. It will be on standby as a rescue spacecraft for the final shuttle mission and if no rescue is needed, NASA could still fly Atlantis on one more mission, since it will be ready to go anyway.

NASA engineer Angie Brewer has been working on Atlantis since it was built in 1982. She supervises every phase of the shuttle preparation from the time it touches down until it launches again.
90.7’s Tom Parkinson spoke with her about the ship's role in human spaceflight and asked her about Atlantis's unique history.
