Osceola Fires County Manger After Jail Escapes

April 5, 2010 -- Osceola County has fired County Manger Mike Freilinger, as part of the continuing fallout that started with two escapes from the county jail earlier this year.

County Commissioners voted 3-2 for the termination at their Monday meeting.

Just last week, Freilinger announced he was firing sixteen county workers in response to the recent jail escapes.  Jail chief Greg Futch and two other employees stepped down as well.

Freilinger’s termination was effective immediately.  He had been on the job for almost three years.  His severance package includes a lump sum payment equal to his annual salary of more than $214,000, plus accrued leave and benefits.

Osceola’s growth management chief Don Fisher will serve as interim County Manager for at least the next eight weeks.
