Florida GOP Chairman To Resign

January 5, 2010 -- State Republican Party Chair Jim Greer announced his resignation today, bowing to pressure from several high-profile GOP leaders and donors. In a conference call with reporters, Greer said he would step down in six weeks. Calls for his resignation have been increasing ahead of a state Republican Party meeting later this week in Orlando. Critics accuse Greer of irresponsible spending and lackluster fundraising. They have also complained about the state GOP's efforts to limit candidates in primaries for some of this year's big elections, including races for governor and U.S. Senate. Greer says only a small faction of the party opposed him but that he decided to step down for the sake of GOP unity.
