January 28, 2011 | WMFE - NASA is marking the 25th anniversary of the loss of Space Shuttle Challenger today.
Retired shuttle launch director Bob Sieck was in the Kennedy Space Center control room that morning as a senior mission manager.
90.7's Tom Parkinson asked Sieck to describe the scene in that room on the morning of January 28th, 1986. The mission audio from that day is from NASA.
Sieck said the mission managers had concerns about the cold weather on that January day but by late morning, the shuttle seemed ready to fly.
Retired shuttle launch director Bob Sieck spoke to us from his home in Melbourne. He retired after a 35-year career at NASA.
